Martin Ernstsen

About Martin Ernstsen
Ernstsen made his debut as a comic artist in 2007 and has since published 13 graphic novels and picture books with publishers such as Jippi, Cappelen Damm, Gyldendal, and Minuskel.
His breakthrough came with Hunger (2019), which won the Brage Prize and several other awards, and has been translated into five languages. His latest book, But Who Are You? (2023), won Årets tegneserie (Comic of the Year).
Ernstsen aims to create atmospheric, emotionally charged stories that combine the intimate and personal with broader cultural and existential perspectives. His work is defined by experimentation in narrative form and visual storytelling, where details, visual choices, layout, and colour all serve the interpretive meaning of the story.
